The Art of Design | Platon: Photography
This documentary was filled with the many artistic element's photographer Platon imbeds in his photographs. The portraits that Platon takes are ones filled with background, design, and simplistic but bold creations. He taps into people's spirits and allows for emotion to be felt through the photographs taken. In the video Platon states, "Great design simplifies a very complicated world" which is a very interesting take on the way photography and design, although seemingly small, have major effects on the world around.
An image that brought me close to my own emotions was in "The People's Portfolio". Specifically in
the Burma's Defenders category, the first picture with the children in black and white. This photo was very emotionally touching, as seeing the pain mixed with innocence on these children's faces portray the difficult situations in which they endured. The children are HIV positive, and the photo shows a great deal of pain in their eyes. The mix of the emotional expressions on their faces with their cultural clothing/ wood paste on their faces intertwine a feeling of suffering from a whole community of people and children. The no smiles and dark photo is very telling of how they feel and the pain they have been through, which allows the viewer to empathize.
In this picture I am enjoying a nice sunny at the beach. I am strolling the shoreline taking in the sunlight. I was unaware that this photo was being taken and am genuinely taking in the nature around me. This day was a particularly special day because I have never been to this beach, and it was the first nice day in Tampa in weeks.
